SEHIKYO is a fashion research and practice project based in Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, Korea, run by Seohee Kim. This project traces and explores conceptual clues that emerge through the process of making and wearing garments, with a focus on collaboration between makers and wearers. SEHIKYO produces garments through DIY (do-it-yourself) practices such as knitting and sewing, using materials that bear traces of previous use, alongside the project’s visual research outcomes and images. This process highlights the material properties of garments, centring on the combination of materials and craft practices. In doing so, SEHIKYO seeks to deconstruct concepts inherent in clothing and fashion, aiming to pose personal or social questions through the act of wearing. By working together with wearers, SEHIKYO shares new ideas about making and wearing garments, ultimately expanding the meaning of clothing and wear.
Seohee Kim is a fashion researcher and practitioner who received her Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design Womenswear from the London College of Fashion in 2016. She also completed her Master of Arts in Fashion Design Womenswear from the Royal College of Art (RCA), London in 2018. She is currently working as a co-founder at Textum Club, a platform focused on critical fashion research.
